Rovers Supporters Group

2007 saw the Hull Kingston Rovers Supporters Group (RSG) celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Following confirmation from the administrators that Hull Kingston Rovers would be playing rugby league in the 1998 season a meeting was arranged with Dave Harrison and Wayne Parker. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss fund raising by supporters to assist with the securing of players and it was down to their belief and commitment to succeed that convinced us there was a need for supporters to become involved and the RSG was born.

Shortly after that meeting Dave and Wayne approached the RSG with a request for funds to help secure the services of two young Australians Danny Brown and Jamie Kennedy. Assisting with the signing of these two players was the first involvement by the RSG and subsequently we have contributed towards well over 50 players signing for the Club in the last ten years.

More recently due to the success and ambitions of the Club we have been able to attract players from outside the immediate area and the RSG has played a significant role in the transfer of Adam Sullivan from Bradford, Phil Hasty from Hunslet and Scott Murrell from Leeds, Michael Dobson from Canberra.

Now an integral part of the Club’s budget for players the RSG continues each season to increase the amount it contributes to the Club with over £17,000 being raised in 2006. Each season we sponsor one of the leading players and we look forward to hearing over the tannoy ‘sponsored by the Rovers Supporters Group’ many times in the coming seasons.

In order to achieve our annual target for each season we hold raffles on match days (any donations would be welcome especially rugby related memorabilia) and two tombolas throughout the season, a race night, quiz night and of course the end of season presentation night. We do need however suggestions / innovative ideas for other fund raising events and you are asked to contact the RSG to discuss these further.

The amount of money raised season after season is testimony to the generosity of the supporters of Hull Kingston Rovers. Without you the RSG would not exist and the Club could still be struggling to sign players.

The RSG have a very good working relationship with the club, who are very supportive and are always available to discuss any issues that we raise.
