Announcement: Daydream Believer
Posted: John @ Mon Jul 07, 2008 5:21 pm
Daydream believer, Stanley Gene's Autobiography, was recently launched at the Royal Hotel. This was followed by a book signing session at Waterstones in Huddersfield the following day. Later a dinner was held also at the Royal Hotel. The book is receiving rave reviews as sales surpass all expectations.
So far sales have reached over 1500 which is a great achievement given the time-scale and distribution points involved. As word spreads everyone is confident this will prove to be one of the great sporting autobiographies of all time. Copies are available at Browns Bookshop, Waterstones and at the club shop on Holderness Road.
Anyone who would like to receive a copy by post please send a cheque for £15 inc P&P payable to Stanley Gene Testimonial Fund and send to Mike Smith at 20 St Bartholomews Way, Saltshouse Road, Hull HU8 0FD.
Stanley Gene’s book is not your ‘run of the mill’ sporting autobiography.
Read his revealing account of family turmoil, snake attacks, political violence, mud sledging in the rainforest and cannibalism. Oh and of course plenty of Rugby.
At 22 years old how do you cope with unimaginable challenges in a strange land? Such as reversing a car, microwave ovens and SNOW!
Enjoy reading just how Stan did and didn’t cope – and how he became one of the most popular figures in rugby league.

TO THE PLAYERS, FROM THE PAST
We’ve had Holdstock and Hogan, Hubbard and Prohm.
A blast from the past, now these players have gone.
There was Flanagan and Fairbairn, Kellett and Clark.
Now there are some names plucked out of the dark!
Plenty of proud players have worn red and white,
Just look at Frank Foster, always up for a fight.
We can’t forget Roger, the Dodger, what class!
There were plenty of times he left players on their ass!!
Great players come and go, their names fade to grey.
But there’s one thing at Rovers, the clubs pride will stay.
Hull KR we support you, we just can’t deny.
With legends like Sully, down the wing he would fly.
So let’s spare a thought for the players who have passed.
Their memories live on, their fame will always last.
We’ve had good times and bad over plenty of years.
We’ve had times of celebration and times full of tears.
We can never forget Wembley, East and West sides of Hull.
That was one special game that will never seem dull.
I was only 15 when that great game was won.
Glory days will come back, Champions again we’ll become!!

Announcement: Paul Cooke joins Rovers
Posted: John @ Sat Apr 28, 2007 12:10 pm
One of Hull FC's leading players and fellow Rovers fan Paul Cooke has joined Rovers on a Free Transfer after handing in his resignation, he made his debut against Huddersfield Giants only hours after getting his registration approved by the RFL.

Paul has been with Hull FC for nearly ten years and is widely regarded as one of the best stand-offs/loose forwards in Super League, has an excellent kicking game and supplying try-scoring passes, he is also excellent goal kicker.
Paul has gained international honours representing England and in the opinion of many people has been unfortunate not to have represented Great Britain.

Announcement: Lennon Joins the Robins
Posted: John @ Thu Apr 19, 2007 2:20 pm
Former Cronulla Shark and Castleford utility back, Mark Lennon has joined Rovers until the end of the season.

Lennon has vast rugby league experience at Premier League level for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Cronulla Sharks in Australia. His playing career includes international duties for Wales due to his mother’s heritage along with Castleford Tigers benefiting from Lennon’s expertise during their Super League days, and Lennon joins the Robins ready for action.
Mark joins the Robins thanks to the contribution of the Rovers Supporters Group, as their financial efforts have significantly contributed to Mark’s arrival.
Hull Kingston Rovers Head Coach Justin Morgan said: “It’s a given fact that due to a number of injuries we have sustained so far this season, Mark is an important addition to the team, it’s also of added benefit that he’s an accomplished goal kicker. Mark’s a very versatile player and can cover a number of positions, he adds a new dimension to the backs and more importantly he his available to play this weekend.”

Smith given more time
Fears Michael Smith could have played his last game for Hull KR have been averted after Justin Morgan confirmed the forward will play in this Sunday's friendly against Bradford Bulls.
The 2nd Rower was the only member of the first team squad not to be taken to the recent pre-season training camp in Spain, with coach Justin Morgan deciding to leave him behind after he returned to training overweight. Morgan had stated that Smith's future was in his own hands, but after meeting up with the 29-year old for the first time today since returning from Spain, the Rovers coach expressed his delight at Smith's response.
Morgan has said Michael has responded well. He was obviously disappointed to be left behind but he understood where i was coming from and the reasons behind my decision. "He has responded in a positive way when he could have easily have been negative. I think it will all work out for the best in the long run. "He's been working in his own time and I have been impressed with his attitude. It was probably a wake up call for both Parties, but now we are both on the same page."
Smith was a key part of Rovers promotion last year scoring 14tries in 20 appearances and as one of the more experienced members...

Danny Ward reviews 2007

DANNY WARD is better placed then anyone to comment on Hull Kingston Rovers' chances of succeding where Castleford failed last season, by avoiding relegation from Super League
He points to far greater stability in the Rovers squad that has been assembled over 18 months by Justin Morgan. As opposed to the rushed job that Terry Matterson was forced to undertake at Castleford.
Ward states that he joined Castleford on the Wednesday night and played that friday when SL XI got underway for Castleford against Hull. Ward says it came as a bit of a shock as i was released from Leeds two weeks previous. "Therfore i missed all the pre-season with Castleford and it took me a few weeks to get up to speed. The whole Casleford team was rushed together and we had players coming in all year. Compare that with Hull KR and one of the good things they've done is keep the majority of the squad that got them into SL so the team spirit in the camp is already there.
If your going to compete you need a good base in the forwards" added Ward "Unless your pack is so...

FORUM PLAYER SPONSORSHIP 2007
After a fantastic 2006 by raising over £1200, we are for 2007 sponsoring the LHF 1 Grand Final Man of the Match BEN COCKAYNE!
Ben collected numerous awards at the 2006 presentation night. Ben won two awards; the prestigious ‘Fans Forum Player of the Year’ and ‘Best Tackle of the Year’. The fans forum player of the year just shows how well people of this forum think Ben performed throughout 2006.

As last year, donating into the forum player sponsorship fund means you get the opportunity to be the face of the fans forum at all events that the sponsors get invited too. Last year this included the exclusive pre-season sponsorship night where you’re able to meet all of the players and a lovely meal.
Not only that, but you also receive a special rank here on the forum for being a ‘Forum Player Sponsor’ which will be dished out by me when I’ve received the money.
